Is AI both overhyped and transformative? Large language models (LLMs) live at the boundary of amazing and disappointing. Sometimes they hallucinate while other times they summarize walls of text into crisp bullet points. Join us at Carnegie Mellon's Integrated Innovation Institute (iii) on Thursday, October 17, at 6pm for an interactive session of peeking behind the curtain of LLMs. This session will be led by Dr. Arthur Sugden, who teaches at the iii. We will learn about some of their weaknesses, as well as leverage their strengths for a whole new kind of “user interviews.” With clever engineering, we can draw from real opinions from real people to get new insights into users. We will have: - A quick intro on how LLMs are just a fancy way to combine the “wisdom of the masses" - An interactive session to build and refine new avatars including User avatars Sales prospect avatars Inspector/regulator avatars (Applying for a grant? Create an example review panel.) Thanks to the generosity of the Integrated Innovation Institute (iii), we will also have complimentary food and drink at this Meetup! ------------- The Integrated Innovation Institute is located at 311 S. Craig Street, Pittsburgh PA 15213. After entering through the front door next to the eye doctor, head straight to the back of the building on the first floor to find the iii office entrance. Morewood Parking lot is free after 5pm. It's about an 8 minute walk to our building. Morewood lot GPS Address: 1048 Morewood Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Dithridge Street Garage is about a 3-minute walk to our building and is $15 after 5pm. Dithridge GPS Address: 252 S Dithridge St., Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Attendees may also find metered street parking (free after 6pm) on South Craig Street or Fifth Avenue.
